So a few weeks ago I was reading the Forbes 50 Over 50 and talk about inspiring – these women are captains of industry, change-makers and voices of reason in male dominated spaces with absolutely no timeline to slow down.
One particular interview stuck with me. Not like Elmers but like Gorilla Glue.
Tracey Chadwell of 1864 Capital’s video of the power of sitting in silence and the advice she would give herself in her 20’s and 30’s in hindsight was something that you have to listen to.
In silence, she talked about following the breadcrumbs.
For myself, sitting still is HARD work. Maybe it’s all the notifications, the to-do lists, the ya know, living. I don’t know but I know it is a challenge and if you’re like me…..
Wherever you are, start there 📍
Getting your mind away from obligations, the to-do list, the goal list, the I-need-to-make-a-grocery-store list; oddly feels like I am taking away vs adding.
So in my own self experiment, one thing I have noticed that is when I am still and I mean, really still, and using a guided mediation in the mornings, from start to finish – my entire day is different.
My mental reaction to any challenges, the cadence of my day, even what I eat is different.
It makes me think of a sermon/podcast from the Spiritual Center of Atlanta that said: “Set your thermostat.”
Setting your thermostat is all about setting the parameters for the temperature of your day. What will it look like? What will it feel like?
As I started incorporating meditation through my Peloton app, I realized that
I may have a 5 minute meditation and my mind still drifted away but I caught it and recentered myself.
The goal is never perfection – always movement.
So next up, will be finding a dedicated spot to park myself and flow. I’ll be sure to share when I carve out this space.
Are you an active meditator? How long and how often do you meditate and how do you quiet your mind?
If you want to try incorporating more, what is your plan and why did it attract you?
Please share, I’m taking notes and always love to learn from you!
