How are you doing?
Have you been hearing something you haven’t been quite listening to?
Well, let me tell you something. Sometimes there is nothing to hear.
Last year I became a Managing Broker of Engel & Völkers Atlanta.
Before that I was at a firm I had no intentions of ever leaving.
A Managing Broker differs as we not only have our broker’s license but we are responsible for the real estate professionals within our firm. Helping them grow, supporting their transactions and ensuring compliance with real estate law.
Working alongside a talented team of Advisors and Brokers, I have the opportunity to lead a team of real estate Advisors that has grown to over 115 in a year, ensuring extraordinary real estate service and results for clients.
Incredibly, our international yet boutique powerhouse, Engel & Völkers Atlanta led as #1 in the state of Georgia, per agent volume, for 2019 sales, meaning we sold a LOT of real estate for 2019 .
If you asked me eons ago when I came into real estate what my route would have looked like, I would have never imagined this amazing ride I continue to be on.
I have been a Realtor, only responsible for clients; a broker growing a firm from 2 agents to over 125 in three years while serving clients and growing a team and I have been an industry leader, helping to chart the professional path and service of local, national and international real estate organizations and how I could I forget, survived the real estate apocalypse of 2008.
It’s funny, before I came to Engel & Völkers (EV), I saw the luxury real estate brand when traveling in Europe and would never forget the memory of a EV sailboat and a ReMax sailboat criss crossing across Lake Zürich like they were racing for attention as I pinched myself in the moment of such a beautiful background.
Two years after my Lake Zurich moment, I would be a Managing Broker at this German based firm’s Atlanta Shop. 🤯
Now nearly 2 years later from that, under the President & CEO of Engel & Völkers Atlanta, Christa Huffstickler’s smart leadership, it has been undoubtedly an incredible journey and one that has made me keenly recognize the depth of the opportunity and how I had been prepared for it.
Not in the sense of learning from the new development and new condominium development Queen but seeing true leadership in the throws of a time that will define businesses and industries for years to come.
You see, some people are scared.
Scared to say the wrong thing, scared to invest, scared to take action.
With all of the civil unrest, as a Black woman and a person of color, it meant so much to me to have an unrelenting CEO in Atlanta, Christa, and the President of our Americas group, Anthony Hitt, acknowledge the pain our community continues to face and invest in solutions.
Thinking about these past 6 months, reminds me of how when you travel with someone, you see the true them.
You see how they react to you not keeping to plan, starting a little late, or being super early and taking a selfie every 15 feet.
With COVID-19, the acknowledgement of the Black Lives Matter movement to be seen and heard, and the general insecurity of what we are facing in our ongoing reality, leadership matters more than anything.
And Leadership, like anything, is a journey. In this journey, I have witnessed strength, unwavering support and monetary investments in a never ending tide of uncertainty.
Unrivaled support to our Advisors has been provided, we have taken on multiple new development projects and across the globe our firm and its people have helped communities in need.
If I hadn’t stretched and answered opportunity’s door, I wouldn’t be positioned to lead, flourish and grow the way I am.
For yourself, take a moment to think about the opportunities you want to explore, the books you want to read, the conferences you want to invest in digitally. Think about the people that have helped you to this point of your life.
Pretty little CYH Moment >> Text them and say, “Thank you for caring. I was just thinking about the impact you’ve had on my life. How are you?” >>
And for that never-ending to do list of things you want to check off….
Don’t rush yourself. Make your list and chip away every day.
